Overview of Position: Chevron Africa & Latin America Exploration and Production/Nigeria/Mid-Africa SBU (CALAEP/NMA) is accepting applications for a Senior Technical Geophysicist, located in Houston, Texas.Overview:Provide technical geophysical leadership and oversight to drive the assessment and application of value-adding geophysical technologies in support of both regional and block/asset/prospect specific evaluations within the complex Gulf of Guinea, Niger Delta and Mid-Africa New Ventures, which is responsible for 18 countries from Morocco through Cameroon.Preference for candidate with ability to travel to Nigeria 1-2 times/year to provide educational seminars and provide in-country project support.
Position Details: Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical geophysical hands-on support, technical leadership, mentoring, and project coordination in support of Gulf of Guinea regional exploration efforts, to the DW Nigeria West and East Asset Teams, and to the Mid-Africa New Ventures Team, which is responsible for 18 countries from Morocco through Cameroon.
  • Assume a hands-on role in applying technical geophysical skills (synthetics, well calibration – RPFS, AVO modeling, PSTM/PSDM, velocity analysis) and experience to facilitate the design, execution and completion of Gulf of Guinea regional assessment deliverables, as well as in support of CVX blocks and assets across the Niger Delta.
  • Provide mentoring / coaching support to the lesser experienced subsurface staff within the Houston-based organization.
  • Liaise with ETC and other external organizations/companies to identify and capture geophysical “lessons learned” and “best practices” and then communicate and share these throughout the organization (technical leadership).
  • Coordinate and supervise all seismic acquisition, processing, reprocessing, and specialty geophysical services in collaboration with key customers and service providers in Houston, as well as support geophysical activities conducted by DW Exploration Teams in Lekki.Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Geophysics or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of directly related experience.
  • Experience as a technical geophysicist in Upstream oil field applications with practicing knowledge of recent geophysical technology and work processes.
  • Ability to provide leadership, oversight and guidance in the identification, evaluation, and application of geophysical technologies and processes in support of block, asset, prospect, and regional team programs and deliverables.
  • Experienced with hands-on application of high-end geophysical mapping and interpretation techniques, seismic calibration techniques (RPFS, AVO/AVA), and workstation applications.
  • Ability to design and conduct seismic acquisition, reprocessing, and geophysical calibration and modeling projects in alignment with exploration project objectives.
  • Proven ability to proactively seek out, identify, share, and apply geophysical “lessons learned” and “best practices” in support of technical work programs and deliverables. Well connected within ETC and the larger geophysical community. Ability to effectively collaborate and make technical contributions in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Ability to develop and communicate recommendations to management.
  • Demonstrated desire and ability to mentor lesser experienced employees and share knowledge/coach.Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Master’s Degree in Geophysics or related discipline.Relocation Options:
